Craig Hutchison MBACP (Accred), UKRCP Reg Ind Cllr.
How confidential is it? Any counselling or psychotherapy I provide is completely and permanently confidential. This means that I don't pass on any personal information which would lead to other people knowing that you have used my services or what you have talked about with me. However, in exceptional circumstances such as where I think you might harm yourself or others, I may be legally and/or ethically required to take action. In these situations I would pass on the minimum of information to the most appropriate professionals in order to protect the safety and confidentiality of those involved. Wherever possible and appropriate I will discuss my concerns with you in advance of taking any action. I will also have regular ongoing supervision while working with you, as is expected of all practitioners who are members of BACP. My supervisor provides a confidential relationship in which I can talk about my work in order to ensure I am functioning effectively, ethically, and in your best interests. I only pass on the minimum information to my supervisor to help them to understand the relevant parts of our work together.
